Email Etiquette for dummies

The father of an old girlfriend of mine and I were discussing email etiquette. He is the President of a large pharmaceutical company. I asked him how he dealt with the volume of email that I assumed he received.

He told me that he asks people to follow a few simple rules when sending him email. These seem obvious, but Im amazed at how many people don’t know them. Read the rest of this entry »

Statistical summary of my year

2007 is over, and what a year it was! It was a year of transition and living upside down for me. Here are some stats to give you an idea:

Number of times I moved: 4
Number of companies with which I had a full time job: 4 (incl. my own company)
Amount of time spent away from home (wherever that was): 3 months
Countries Visited: 4 (not counting transits)
Distance Flown: 80,872 mi
Longest Bike Ride: 73 mi
Longest Car Trip: 1,845 mi

Being unsettled created an amazing amount of stress for me in 2007. However, I couldn’t be happier where the year is ending. The bike ride statistic was accomplished yesterday when Ben and I biked from our place in Cambridge to Newport, Rhode Island. Im a little sore, but dancing tonight should loosen me up. See you next year!

Simplifying desktop clutter with an Apple keyboard and mouse

I’ve never liked wires. I am, however, a nerd with a lot of gadgets. I get rid of things, make them smaller or make them wireless when I can. I just redid my Keyboard and Mouse situation.
Before
Microsoft Keyboard and Mouse
This is my desktop up until today. My massive microsoft bluetooth keyboard and mouse were spilling off of the keyboard tray and it was super annoying.

Overcoming pessimism before it poisons your mind

PositivityThink about the successful people in your life. Would you characterize them as negative? Pessimistic? Down-trodden? I doubt it. Now think about the people in your life who have not yet attained success; people a little jealous of the successful group. Are they negative? pessimistic? Down-trodden? Most likely. Does that surprise you? Read the rest of this entry »

Now the iPhone does mail as well as a blackberry

Blackberry Pearl and Apple iPhoneOne of the biggest problems with the iPhone is how it handles email (especially if you use gmail). If I read something on my iPhone, it was still unread in my gmail, and my inbox.

Basically, the way it should work is: if I read it on my phone, my laptop, my desktop or the web, it should be marked as read everywhere. You couldn’t do this out of the box. Read the rest of this entry »
