So far, the good2gether experience has been really educational. Greg McHale is a great CEO. He spends more time on the road selling than anyone I know. Check out his blog to see what part of the country he is in today!

As a side note, we’re looking for talented front end designers, and ruby on rails developers to add to the team. Our Boston launch date is fast approaching.

I’ve criticised 37signals in the past, but must concede that software design is better off because of them.

37Signals flipped the software design process on its head. Start by using sharpies to draw an interface on paper. From there, start coding the HTML for the site. Iterate out until you have a finished product. You can read more about this process in their e-book Getting Real.

They develop exclusively on Ruby on Rails (RoR). 37Signals David Heinemeier Hansson (or DHH as he is known in the community) originally conceived and developed Rails. My current company Notati, built our Prayer Request social network, Prayabout on Rails. Rails also powers Radiant, a CMS I highly recommend.

It was interesting to meet a guy like Kevin Rose whom I have only ever seen on the other side of a screen – like on Tech TV or Diggnation. He always looks so calm and confident when he is in front of a camera.  When I met him I noticed that it seemed like a nervous experience for him to interact with strangers. It’s probably an awkward feeling when other people know more about you than you do about them.

Bob and Matt from Slapvid stopped by the loft today. They’re a couple of Carnegie Mellon MBA candidates. They’re in Boston for the summer as part of Y Combinator’s really early stage seed program. Spending a summer in a tiny apartment in Cambridge in a group of four working everyday sounds fun!

The cool thing they’re doing now is making it easy to stream high quality video. From their site

The SlapVid P2P video distribution platform is a Java applet that sits on the web-page and creates a peer-to-peer environment between all concurrent viewers of the same video. Each viewer will have a copy of the applet that will send and receive pieces of the video file to the other applets as need be. This reduces the amount of bandwidth coming from the real content servers, and can dramatically increase download speed.

They’re trying to raise money for the Lance Armstrong foundation. They need your moral and fiscal support! (You could also digg their site to get them publicity!)

Back in January, I heard about Virgin America through an article on the Freakonomics blog. In a nutshell, what’s exciting to me about Virgin America is – ethernet at every seat, power at every seat, entertainment platform built on linux.

My girlfriend always makes fun of me for being a geek, but what can I say, IM A GEEK!

What will be interesting is how much debauchery gets organized using the seat to seat chat system. Or maybe that is just a geek fantasy!

London’s entrepreneur scene

London’s scene is full of activity, and talking with people at the Open Coffee Club, it seems it’s getting better. The main problem with London is the cost of everything here. My train ticket in from Ascot during peak time was $45. It’s cheaper for me to take a 4 hr bus ride to New York and back than it is to get into London for the day!

Since the internet levels the playing field, this means that the hurdles to getting an internet business off the ground are much higher. With current exchange rates, your idea basically has to be twice as good!
